Role of a Mentor
In the ChemEnggLife Mentor Programme, your role as a mentor is to be a neutral and a professional friend. The key responsibility of a mentor is to actively listen and provide guidance, motivation and be a role model. A mentor has “been there and has gone through it all”, so he/she can share his/her own academic and career paths to provide guidance for the mentee to set realistic goals and avoid making career mistakes. But always remember that it is the mentee, who has the centre stage. The mentee's needs and wishes should always take priority.
You can be a mentor if you ..
Have a Chemical Engineering Degree (BSc/MSc/PhD)*
Have minimum 6 months of work experience or PhD tenure after graduation
Are in a final semester of your degree, with having done student jobs during your degree
Can commit to minimum two mentees for 6 months period
Can have at least one 1-hour meeting with the mentees
* if you have BSc. in ChemE, but have a MSc. in a different field f.e. petroleum, environmental etc, you can still sign up to be a mentor
